Choosing the right solar installer in Switzerland: 7 key criteria

Choosing the installer is the most important decision in your solar project – more important than the price. A poor installer will cost you more in the long run than a cheap offer saves. Here are the 7 decisive criteria.

Choosing the right solar installer in Switzerland: 7 key criteria

1–3: Qualifications, certifications and experience

Always ask for proof of a recognised qualification. The installer must be registered in the relevant electrical register and have proven experience with systems of your size.

  • Electrician with official register entry
  • Pronovo registration for EIV processing
  • At least 20 reference installations
  • Experience with local grid operators

Only registered installers can apply for the EIV subsidy – always check this.

4–5: Quote, planning and guarantees

A good quote always includes: detailed system plan, yield forecast, component list with manufacturers, separate installation and material guarantees.

Require a 10-year workmanship guarantee and check manufacturer guarantees for modules (usually 25 years) and inverter (5–10 years).

  • Yield forecast with and without battery
  • Module manufacturer guarantee: 25 years
  • Inverter guarantee: 5–10 years
  • Installation guarantee: at least 5–10 years

6–7: Local presence and after-sales service

Prefer local installers based in your region who can respond quickly to service requests. A company 200 km away will be slow to respond when problems arise.

Ask explicitly about after-sales service: who comes for annual maintenance? How long is the contact person reachable?

  • Company in your region
  • Annual maintenance offered
  • Reachable contact person after installation
  • Reference customers in your municipality

At least 3 quotes from different companies. Price differences of 20–35% for equivalent quality are common. PVPro delivers up to 3 vetted quotes within a few days.

What to do if the installer is unreachable after installation?+

Document everything in writing and choose an established company with references. PVPro partners all have at least 3 years of trading history and local presence.
